Red Light District Outreach Mumbai

One of the major areas BTC addresses is the issue of human trafficking, otherwise known as modern-day slavery. Globally, there are over 24 million people trafficked, and sexual trafficking is one of the most brutal and inhumane forms of slavery.

Sexual trafficking is a pervasive problem in India. BTC works mainly in the red light district of Mumbai, rescuing women and children who have been sold as slaves to brothels and made to work as prostitutes. A by-product of this industry is the spread of the HIV virus, with many dying of AIDS.

BTC’s outreach team scours the streets of Mumbai’s red light district, searching out those who are forgotten and rejected by society. Hope and help are offered to those who are hopeless and helpless to change their circumstances on their own. Many seek to flee this lifestyle, but do not have the power to escape.

BTC literally rescues them and provides them not only basic life necessities, but also love and acceptance, as well as the education and skills required to free them from perpetuating the cycle, and enabling them to become productive contributors to society.

Many of these victims also receive medical care at the HIV clinics in the area. Counseling is also a key component of rehabilitation and restoration. Support is also given to widows, providing them with a monthly allowance for clothing and medicine.
